I wrote about my “writing prompt exercise” in my welcome post, and here is another one! Enjoy.
Writing prompt
Your pet dragon transforms into a person
Writing prompt exercise
I watched as the scales transformed into a skin that glowed with a pearlescense you would never see on a person – unless body glitter was involved, perhaps. The wings retracted into their back, created an etched image that could easily pass as a tattoo.
“Oh my,” I breathed as the transformation continued. The horns on their head shrank down until they barely peeked out of the main of pearlenscent hair sprouted from their head.
“Ow,” my dragon, my poor, poor dragon, moaned as it knelt on the floor.
I raced forward, saying, “Do you want me to help you?”
“Yes,” they said, whimpering.
“Can I touch you without hurting you?”
“We’ll find out. It’s not like I’ve done this before.”
“True.” I nodded as knelt beside them, gently placing my hands on their arms. “Does this hurt?”
“No. Feels weird as shit but doesn’t hurt. Help me stand up, please.”
“Are you sure you can?”
“Again, we’ll find out.”
I steadied them as they tried to rise. They got up to their knees before dropping back to the floor.
“Nope, not moving.” They curled up in a fetal position next to me.
“Okay,” I said, nodding. “We’ll make camp here and let you rest. We can try to help you stand later.”
Purpose of this prompt
I wrote about why I’m doing this exercise in a separate post. But what purpose does this writing prompt exercise serve? Well, it serves three purposes by:
- Keeping me in the practice of writing.
- Helping generate story ideas.
- Offering you sneak peeks into what I might be working on next.
This piece is raw and unedited. I have made no changes from the words I wrote long-hand in my notebook. Why would I do that? Because I want to show y’all that what you write doesn’t have to be perfect the first time. Don’t let perfect get in the way of getting things done.
Got any ideas for writing prompts you would like to see me use in a writing prompt exercise? Drop them in the comments. I can always use new ideas. Also, if you want to support me, visit my Patreon or Buy me a Coffee.
That’s all for now. Stay fabulous, y’all!
