I wrote about my “writing prompt exercise” in my welcome post, and here is another one! Enjoy.

Writing prompt exercise
The road wound lazily up the western Michigan coast, passing small lake-side towns and running past deep forests that loomed with an ancient prescense.
“Where are we headed?” I asked my partner as I watched the scenery fly by.
“Does it matter?” She continued looking at the road, her left arm draping over the steering wheel and her right hand resting on the gear shift.
“I suppose not,” I responded as I turned to admire her. Unlike previous vacations, which were full of busy iteneraries and mad-dash chases to airline gates and baggage claims, this vacation was all about being in the moment. We set a couple of points to hit along the way, but the only timetables were centered around hotel reservations.
Personally, I was loving it.
“We are going to have to stop for a few,” she said, glancing at me, a small smile on her face. “Nature is calling, so to speak.”
I laughed. “Probably a wise idea. I could use a chance to stretch my legs and get a drink refill.”
“No bathroom break?”
“Oh, definitely a bathroom break,” I said, looking forward as we turned off on the exit. “One should never pass up any opportunity to pee.”
“Too true,” she said, chuckling as she pulled into the small gas station.
Purpose of this prompt
I wrote about why I’m doing this exercise in a separate post. But what purpose does this writing prompt exercise serve? Well, it serves three purposes by:
- Keeping me in the practice of writing.
- Helping generate story ideas.
- Offering you sneak peeks into what I might be working on next.
This piece is raw and unedited. I have made no changes from the words I wrote long-hand in my notebook. Why would I do that? Because I want to show y’all that what you write doesn’t have to be perfect the first time. Don’t let perfect get in the way of getting things done.
About this writing prompt exercise
This is actually based on a real vacation I took with my second ex-spouse. She and I had to go up to Holland, Michigan for a wedding, and we decided to take the week after that off and just drive up the western coast of Michigan. We had a few destinations in mind, but most of it was spent driving and checking out whatever met our fancy in the moment.
This excerpt is based on a stop-off for gas at a station located in a wooded area. The woods we had driven through felt a little creepy and got my idea hamsters running on their trail.
More is going to come out of this exercise. Stay tuned, because this outcome might end up on either my Patreon or my Ko-fi pages.
Got any ideas for writing prompts you would like to see me use in a writing prompt exercise? Drop them in the comments. I can always use new ideas. Also, if you want to support me, visit my Patreon or Buy me a Coffee. I like coffee; it keeps me going.
That’s all for now. Stay fabulous, y’all!
