I wrote about my “writing prompt exercise” in my welcome post, and here is another one! Enjoy.
Writing prompt
Don’t be someone’s “sometimes” person
Writing prompt exercise
“Sis,” Phoebe said as Athena wandered around her room, searching for something to wear on her date. “Why are you going out with her?”
“Because she’s fun,” Athena replied, shrugging her shoulders as she pulled a tank top out of her drawer. “And she doesn’t want to hang out often, so it’s fun when we do.”
Phoebe furrowed her brow, watching her sister strip off her t-shirt and slipped the tank top over her head. The green brought out the redness in Athena’s strawberry blonde hair.
“Have you ever hung out with Sam when her other friends were around?” Phoebe asked as she sat on her sisters bed and pulled her knees to her chest.
Athena paused, thinking. “No,” she said, drawing the sound out to emphasize her thought. She shook her head. “But that’s usually because they’re so busy.” She slipped out of her jeans and tossed them aside before picking up the short denim skirt laying next to Phoebe on the bed.
“Exactly,” Phoebe said, nodding and raising one eyebrow. “Have you ever considered that you’re her ‘sometimes’ person?”
“Sometimes person?” Athena paused in the progress of stepping into the skirt. She wrinkled her brow, confusion clear on her face.
“Yeah, the person you hang out with only when you have nothing better to do.”
Purpose of this prompt
I wrote about why I’m doing this exercise in a separate post. But what purpose does this writing prompt exercise serve? Well, it serves three purposes by:
- Keeping me in the practice of writing.
- Helping generate story ideas.
- Offering you sneak peeks into what I might be working on next.
This piece is raw and unedited. I have made no changes from the words I wrote long-hand in my notebook. Why would I do that? Because I want to show y’all that what you write doesn’t have to be perfect the first time. Don’t let perfect get in the way of getting things done.
Got any ideas for writing prompts you would like to see me use in a writing prompt exercise? Drop them in the comments. I can always use new ideas. Also, if you want to support me, visit my Patreon or Buy me a Coffee. I like coffee; it keeps me going.
That’s all for now. Stay fabulous, y’all!
